La Union still has highest COVID-19 cases in region
TOTAL active cases in the whole of Region 1 has risen to 5,154 from 4,443 previous week as 89 more cases were added to the tally last April 20, but officials said the number is still manageable and will not reach the level of cases at the National Capital Region + bubble.
Of the 89 new cases added on April 20, 57 were from Pangasinan, seven from La Union, 20 from Ilocos Sur, and five from Ilocos Norte.
According the to Department of Health-Center for Health Development 1 (DOH-CHD 1), the 5,154 active cases constitute 37.7 percent of the total confirmed cases of 13,670 registered, while the total 8,147 recoveries recorded and three 369 deaths are 59.597 percent and 2.699 percent, respectively, of the confirmed cases.
La Union, with some of its town including the city of San Fernando placed under the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ), has the most active cases in the region with 2,621, followed by Pangasinan (1,443 cases), Ilocos Sur (553); Ilocos Norte (393) and Dagupan City (164).
Because of the rising cases, La Union placed some of its towns including the city of San Fernando under the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) classification although the province remains under the General Community Quarantine (MGCQ). (Leonardo Micua)
