Pangasinan Paralympic paddlers shine in SEA Games

SEASONED Paralympic paddlers Edwin Advincula from Binalonan and Jamela Prestoza of Pozorrubio brought honor to the province after winning three bronze medals in table tennis during the 2nd Southeast Asian Deaf Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia, from August 20-26, 2025.

The second edition of the SEA Deaf Games was joined by 270 athletes from seven countries in the region, including Malaysia, the Philippines, Brunei, Thailand, Laos, Timor Leste, and Indonesia.

The 46-year-old Advincula displayed his brilliant control and attacks in Men’s Singles to grab the bronze podium finish.

Meanwhile, 34-year old Prestoza showcased her swatting mastery in Women’s Singles to secure the bronze and duplicated the same feat in Women’s Doubles alongside her teammate Jedameg Ratificar, who hails from Coron, Palawan.

Both Advincula and Prestoza serve as coaches and mentors to the table tennis clubs in their respective towns and will continue to train emerging young talents to achieve their potential and promote the growing sport in the province.

The national Paralympic table tennis squad finished second in the overall rankings, clinching 7 gold medals, 6 silver, and 12 bronze medals. (Kim Gealogo)
