FIFTEEN-year-old Princess Sarah Grace Pascual of Barangay Tapuac, Dagupan brought honor to her city and the country after harvesting a silver podium finish during the 17th ASEAN Taekwondo Federation Championships held August 18-21, 2025  in Nha Trang City, Vietnam.

Some 322 top taekwondo jins from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Laos, Cambodia, the Philippines, Myanmar, Brunei, and host country Vietnam competed for international titles in poomsae (forms) and kyorugi (sparring) categories.

The young Dagupeña prodigy displayed her powerful kicks, deceptive feints, and blocks in Kyorugi U17 Junior Female 55kg to capture the silver medal.

Asian games veteran and Philippine Taekwondo team head coach Elaine Alora said the national players showcased their honed skills and determination after months of rigorous training.

“This event is a good training ground for athletes to gain experience and will serve as a tune-up for some team members who will represent the country for the upcoming SEA Games in Thailand this December,” she said.

Pascual is part of the Philippine Junior National Team and is training under the mentorship of head coaches Paul Romero and Alora.

The Philippines ranked second in medal tally with 47 medals, including 11 gold, 11 silver and 25 bronze. Malaysia placed third with 18 medals while Vietnam claimed the top spot with 125 medals. (Kim Gealogo)
