THE Pangasinan Heatwaves sizzled hot when they torched the Sarangani Gripper Motorcycle in a dominant fashion, 81-55, during the 7th Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) last July 28 at the Batangas City Coliseum.

During the first period, Mike DiGregorio maneuvered the Heatwaves’ offense with his floaters and pull-up jumpers and wound up eight points to tally an early lead, 21-10.

Moving to the second frame, Jeff Viernes grabbed the scoring cudgels for Sarangani and dropped with eight points to counter. However, Pangasinan’s leading scorer, Vic Manuel, swiftly repulsed the threat and gathered 11 points to preserve the advantage at halftime, 40-29.

At the second half action, the Heatwaves showcased their field goal efficiency, shooting 56% from the field against the 29% percent of the Gripper Motorcycles. Manuel remained hot and took over  the Heatwaves’ scoring segment with 10 points through his post-up plays and three-point conversions to breakaway and never looked back.

Manuel paced Pangasinan to its 13th win against six losses with 22 points and three boards alongside DiGregorio, who added 13 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, and a career-high 5 steals.

Meanwhile, Sarangani only produced double-digit production from Viernes with 17 markers, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.
