Pangasinan scorches Quezon City in MPBL, 91-77
THE Pangasinan Heatwaves proved their supremacy after clobbering the Quezon City Galeries Taipans, 91-77, in the 7th Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) last August 2 at the Villar Coliseum in Las Piñas City, Metro Manila.
At the start of the ball game, the Heatwaves’ Jorey Napoles found his rhythm and posted nine early points. On the flipside, Taipans’ Ryan Reyes returned fire through his key drives and registered eight points to tally a lead, 23-21.
During the second period, a series of back-and-forth unfurled with four deadlocks and two lead changes. Edcel Rojas navigated Quezon City’s offense with six points through his driving layups to threaten. But Pangasinan’s Vic Manuel swiftly countered four points alongside the back-to-back triples of Laurenz Victoria to knot the score at the half at 41 all.
Cruising in the third frame, Heatwaves’ new recruit Allyn Bulanadi went hot and sparked a 14-point cluster courtesy of his four three-point conversions to claim the advantage, 69-60.
Pangasinan sustained the momentum in the fourth, shooting 56% from the basket over the 41% shot efficiency of Quezon City to break away and clinch the victory in a strong finish.
Allyn Bulanadi towed the Heatwaves in his debut game with 16 points and three rebounds and was hailed as the best player of the game. Manuel and Napoles provided support with 13 points apiece in Pangasinan’s fourth game-winning streak.
For Quezon City, Reyes chalked up 14 points and six rebounds, combined with the 12 points and four rebounds of Rojas.
As of the writing, Pangasinan is at the 6th spot of the Northern Division standings with a 14-6 win-loss card. (Kim Gealogo)
