THE San Juan Knights dealt the Pangasinan Heatwaves their sixth loss in the 7th Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball  (MPBL), 73-66, last June 26 at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan, Manila.

During the opening frame, Heatwaves’ Vic Manuel waxed hot early with 14 points and sank four triples to carve a lead, 20-17.

Advancing to the second period, San Juan went full throttle from deep with four three-point conversions to retaliate. AC Soberano led the Knights’ offense with five points off his driving layups to take the lead at halftime, 36-31.

Reeling off in the third juncture, San Juan carried on the momentum courtesy of Michael Calisaan’s six-point cluster alongside the 5-point burst of Dexter Maiquez to extend the gap within twin digits, 56-44.

Midway in the fourth, Jorey Napoles tried to bail out Pangasinan through his inside connections with seven points, but Calisaan took over in the clutch and stopped Pangasinan’s run with five points to surge ahead.

Calisaan paced the Knights with 11 markers, followed by the balanced contribution of Soberano, Maiquez, and Arvin Gamboa with nine points apiece.

On the flipside, the Heatwaves chalked up 18 points and six rebounds from Manuel, plus the double-double production of Jorey Napoles with 12 points and 10 boards.

Pangasinan remained in the sixth spot of the Northern Division standings of the MPBL with a 10-6 win-loss card. (Kim Gealogo)
