Pangasinan outlasts Valenzuela in MPBL, 114-90

THE Pangasinan Heatwaves asserted its supremacy after fending off the Valenzuela City Magic, 114-90, last July 11, 2025  at Imus City Sports Complex in Cavite.

Pangasinan sizzled hot during the first quarter courtesy of Ralph Robin’s back-to-back triples, reinforced with the five points of King Gurtiza to secure an early lead, 27-13.

Heading to the second frame, Valenzuela City found its shooting touch and returned fire with five three-point conversions. Heatwaves’ homegrown talent Jerald Bautista swiftly replied with his two consecutive triples, but Jan Formento sparked an eleven-point cluster to put Valenzuela on top at the half, 44-43.

Valenzuela City greeted the third with a six-point spurt through the mid-range connections of Jonathan Gesalem.

On the counter, Heatwaves’ big man Michael Mabulac made his presence felt in the shaded area with 10 points while the diminutive Hesed Gabo showcased his shooting range with two triples and posted 10 markers to capture the advantage, 79-69.

Moving to the fourth frame, Pangasinan sustained the momentum and rode on the scoring surge of Mabulac with eight points to pull away for good.

Mabulac towed the Heatwaves with 24 points, two rebounds, and three steals, combined with the 17-point output of Gabo followed by the 15-point contribution of Gurtiza.

For Valenzuela, Jan Formento tallied 20 points and 7 rebounds plus the 14 points of Gesalem.

The Pangasinan Heatwaves moved up to the 5th spot of the Northern Division standings of the 7th MPBL season with a 12-6 win-loss record. (Kim Gealogo)
