SP resolution seeks e-scorecard at Astrodome
THE majority bloc in the Dagupan Sangguniang Panlungsod passed a resolution during its June 10 session recommending that Mayor Belen Fernandez study the feasibility of installing an electronic scorecard at the People’s Astrodome and all other sports facilities in the city.
Authored by outgoing Councilor Alvin Coquia and six of his fellow majority councilors, only one of whom is joining the next council starting July 1, the resolution did not meet any objection from the minority bloc, whose three of five members finally attended the session after availing of two weeks of special privilege leaves.
Coquia and his colleagues said installing an electronic scoreboard will provide enhanced visibility, greater accuracy, and a more enjoyable experience for both athletes and spectators.
The resolution states that electronic scoreboards are far more precise than mechanical ones, can run instant replays, and serve as a platform for sponsorship ads and other information.
The resolution was moved jointly and seconded by Councilors Librada Reyna, Marilou Fernandez, Alfie Fernandez, Celia Lim, Redford Erfe-Mejia and Irene Lim-Acosta, although Reyna and Acosta were not in the session hall.
Present among the minority were Councilors Michael Fernandez, Dennis Canto and Bradley Benavidez, along with reelected Vice Mayor and SP presiding officer Bryan Kua. (Leonardo Micua)
