THE Pangasinan Heatwaves won by forfeiture against the Bacolod Tubo Slashers, 20-0, in the 7thMaharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) last June 21 held at Sentrong Pangkabataan Gymnasium in Oriental Mindoro.

The Heatwaves showcased an incendiary shooting performance from the three-point territory with five triples led by Mike DiGregorio with two three-point conversions and 10 points to mount an early lead in the first period, 30-19.

During the second frame, Bacolod tried to exchange baskets through the 8-combined points of Mark Ray Dubouzet and Miles Cañal, but these efforts were put to naught when Pangasinan’s second unit scored 14 points to widen the gap at the half, 50-30.

The Tubo Slashers declined to leave their dugout after the halftime break, prompting Technical Head George Magsino to discard Pangasinan’s 50-30 lead and apply the FIBA (International Basketball Federation) rule that sets the score at 20-0 in such cases.

Bacolod wanted to field in its new recruits Taddy Rangel and Kenneth Malazarte, but their request was denied by the MPBL board as they had yet to comply with necessary requirements in the trading window of the league.

Pangasinan garnered 10 points and four rebounds from DiGregorio combined with the seven markers and two steals of Jay Collado.

Meanwhile, Bacolod collected eight points from Dubouzet followed by the contributions of Cañal and Richard Movida with 7 points apiece.

The Pangasinan Heatwaves is currently in sixth spot of the Northern Division rankings in MPBL with a 10-5 win-loss record. (Kim Gealogo)
