RAYMUND Torio of Lingayen brought honor to the country when he emerged victorious in the open classic division of the prestigious Powerman Malaysia held last June 22 in Dataran Putrajaya, Malaysia.

Considered as the world’s biggest duathlon event, the international tourney was joined by 4,500 athletes from 30 nations.

Competing against 1,100 duathletes in the cycling and running race,  Torio stood out in the Open Classic Male Category and clocked in 2:50:59 to claim the top spot.

Torio, who hails from Barangay Matalava in the capital town, is one of the head coaches of the National Duathlete Team and is currently mentoring athletes who will be representing the country for the 33rd Asian Games in Thailand this December.

“I am incredibly grateful for those who helped me financially and believed in me to perform at my best on the global stage. I will continue to help the grassroots players and motivate them to become better athletes,” he said. (Kim Gealogo)
