Pangasinan Heatwaves seen stronger for 7th MPBL season
AFTER making its debut in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League last year, the Pangasinan Heatwaves is again set to vie for the title this year for the 7th MPBL Season, with the opening tip-off held March 8.
In the previous season, Pangasinan was beaten off the boards by powerhouse teams and failed to advance to the play-offs.
In its second run, the Heatwaves improved its roster in the off-season by tapping the services of former PBA Champion Vic Manuel, power leaper Lervin Flores, and a stretch big Jorey Napoles to boost their front court.
New recruits Mac Tallo, Bong Galanza, and Mike DiGregorio will command the guard position to provide floor generalship and scoring for Pangasinan.
“Our chances this year are better, while the other teams are also preparing and strengthening, we added players who can bang bodies to snag rebounds and floor spacers to generate shots anytime,” Heatwaves head coach Jerson Cabiltes said.
Pangasinan retained most of its rotational players that include Michael Juico, Hesed Gabo, EIan Melencio, Michael Mabulac, Shaq Taganas, Joshua Fontanilla, Jhapz Bautista, Nat Cosejo, Vince Tolentino, and homegrown talent JR Caasi.
Pangasinan finished the 2024 MPBL campaign with a 12-16 win-loss card, sitting in the eleventh spot of the Northern Division rankings. (Kim Gealogo)
