THE Pangasinan Abono Reapers took down the league-leading Caloocan Supremos in an intense battle that ended at 65-63 during the 4th Pilipinas Super League President’s Cup last February 4 at the Caloocan Sports Complex.

Pangasinan’s front court duo, Michael Mabulac and Michael Juico, helmed the team’s scoring department with floaters and jumpers to combine with eight points to build a narrow lead in the first frame, 19-17.

In the second period, Supremos’ Jeff Manday replied with back-to-back three-pointers to threaten Pangasinan. However, Reapers’ Harvey Pagsanjan answered with his own eight-to-nothing cluster off transition layups and downhill drives to stretch Pangasinan’s lead at the half, 41-29.

In the third quarter, the Supremos found its offensive rhythm, shooting 42% from the field against the 32% of the Reapers.

Despite the shooting slump, Reapers’ Jorey Napoles managed to quell the offense of the Supremos with two blocks and seven rebounds to preserve the advantage, 52-45.

Bottom of the fourth with one minute and 37 seconds left, the Supremos staged a last-ditch rally led by Chris Bitoon’s eight-point burst to close the gap within three, 59-62, but these were swiftly countered by Jay Collado’s six points off a triple and an one-play in consecutive possessions to secure the victory.

Pangasinan banked on the 10 points, four rebounds, and two steals of Michael Mabulac plus the seven points and 11 boards of Jorey Napoles.

On the other end, Caloocan got 17 points from Manday, plus the 13 point and four steals of Bitoon.

The Pangasinan Abono Reapers climbed to third spot in the conference standings with an 8-2 win-loss record. (Kim Gealogo)
