Umingan triumphs in intra-province volleyball tourney
THE Umingan Men’s Volleyball Team pummeled the Hits Don’t Lie Volleyball Club in the championship match of the USAD Tangcarang’s Intra-Province Open Invitational Men’s Volleyball Tournament in three straight sets: 25-22, 25-20, 25-21, last December 1 at the Alaminos City Sports Complex.
Organized by USAD (Unity Sparks Advancement and Development) Tangcarang, the tournament was participated in by 27 volleyball clubs across the province that aims to provide an avenue for local athletes to display their skills, promote sportsmanship, and build camaraderie.
In the opening set, Umingan asserted its strong net defense with six kill blocks against one of Hits Don’t Lie to carve an early cushion.
Heading to the second set, HDL’s Jimmy Magalong countered with down-the-line hits with four points, but Umingan’s middle blocker Joderick Balmores responded with quick attacks and tallied six points to stretch the lead.
Umingan’s open spiker Justin Urdas took over in the final set with 14 attack points and two blocks to pull away and seize the championship tiara.
The Umingan Men’s Volleyball Team bagged the P100,000 top prize, runner-up Hits Don’t Lie claimed P60,000, Team Empire secured P40,000, while USAD Tangcarang earned P30,000.
Other individual awardees of the tourney were John Paul de Guzman (Best Outside Hitter), Harry Romero (2nd Bet Outside Hitter), Joderick Balmores (Best Middle Blocker), Jay-R De Guzman (2nd Best Middle Blocker), Giovanni Castro (Best Opposite Hitter), Rocky Sabangan (Best Setter), Rey Repizo (Best Libero), Kevin Montemanor (Season MVP), Justin Urdas (Finals MVP), and Eusebio Solis (Best Coach).
