Lingayen sprinter captures gold in Batang Pinoy
SIXTEEN-year-old Eric Joachim Hechanova of the Pangasinan National High School showcased his exceptional speed when he won the first gold for Pangasinan in the annual Batang Pinoy in the 5000-meter run 16-17 YO Boys last November 25, 2024 at the Ramon V. Mitra Jr. Sports Complex in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
Competing against 52 elite long-distance runners in the country, Hechanova clocked in a national best time of 15 minutes and 57 seconds to outclass Mark Jaydan Tasoy of Aklan who checked in 16 minutes and 36 seconds and John Lewis Abbu of Mandaluyong City ho clocked 16 minutes and 43 seconds.
“This is for Pangasinan, my hardwork and determination have come into fruition, I hope my win inspires others to chase their dreams and believe in what they can achieve,” he said.
A native of Barangay Baay in Lingayen, the sprinter is playing under the leadership of head coaches Gemma Felix and Raymond Torio.
Hechanova will continue to forge his skills and had his eyes set on upcoming national and international athletics events. (Kim Gealogo)
