SP lauds athlete for 3-gold feat in National Para Games
THE Pangasinan provincial board commended a local athlete for his outstanding performance in the recently concluded 8th Philippine National Para Games 2024, where he clinched three gold medals in table tennis.
A resolution passed on November 18 recognized Leo Abulencia Macalanda, a member of Team Pangasinan, for bringing pride to both the province and the city of Urdaneta.
He triumphed in the Men’s Single Class 7, Men’s Double Class 7, and Team Event Class 7 Para Table Tennis events. Macalanda previously earned two bronze medals in the Mixed Doubles T6-7 and Team Event T7-8 Para Table Tennis at the 12th ASEAN Para Games 2023 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Held from November 11 to 24, the 8th Philippine National Para Games, organized by the Philippine Paralympic Committee and supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, brought together over 1,000 para-athletes from across the country.
The resolution, authored by 5th District Board Member Nicholi Jan Sison, cited Macalandas’ recent accomplishments as a powerful reminder that disability or impairment should not be an obstacle to success and that his achievements are an inspiration to future generations of para-athletes.
