SEVENTEEN-year-old Sherina Peralta of Schools Division Office San Carlos City displayed her astounding strength in the athletic events of the Pangasinan Provincial Para Games tryout last October 9-10 held at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center in Lingayen, earning her a slot in the National Para Games.

Organized by the Philippine Sports Association for the Differently Disabled (PHILSPADA) and the Pangasinan Federation of Persons with Disabilities, Inc., the provincial qualifying round sought to foster the development of sports programs for persons with disabilities in Pangasinan.

Competing against nine para-athletes, Peralta stood her ground in the Shot Put Girls category to claim first place and secured the second place in the Girls Running Long Jump.

“It was a thrilling experience to challenge skilled para-athletes in the qualifiers, I’ll continue my rigorous trainings and put more effort to win in the nationals not just for my school, but for the province as well,” Peralta said.

Training under the auspices of head coach Marivic Ramos, SPED teacher of Bacnar NHS, Peralta will compete in the national stage against the best para-athletes across the country on November 10 to 15 in Marikina City. (Kim Gealogo)
