Pangasinan Para-Athletes shine in 1st National Deaf Games

TWO members of the Pangasinan PingPong Association showcased their talent and harvested 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze in the inaugural Philippine National Deaf Games that concluded September 29 at Robinsons Otis, Manila.

The first-ever National Deaf Games gave skilled deaf athletes an avenue to demonstrate their skills, compete against topnotch players in the nation, and give an opportunity for homegrown talents to represent the country in various international tilts.

Forty-five-year-old Edwin Advincula from Binalonan took down Cayl Brent Sanchez of Manila in the Men’s Singles Final to capture the gold medal, 21-14,21-16.

Meanwhile, 33-year-old Jamela Prestoza of Pozorrubio brought home a bronze medal in the Women’s Singles category.

In the Mixed Doubles Category, the pair of Advincula and Prestoza fell short against Manila’sAbrianne Nuevo and Cayl Sanchez to earn the silver, 18-21,21-17, 21-23,16-21.

The veteran swatter Advincula, who hails from Barangay Sta. Maria in Binalonan town, is a playing-coach of Binalonan Table Tennis Club while Prestoza of Barangay Malasin is a trainer at the Pozorrubio Table Tennis Club.

With their victories, the Team Pangasinan Pongers duo secured a spot in the upcoming Asia Pacific Deaf Games slated on December 1-8 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. (Kim Gealogo)
