THE Pangasinan Heatwaves went full throttle to wallop Imus Agimat VA Drones in a dominant fashion, 112-83, last September 14 at the Angeles University Foundation Gymnasium in Angeles City, Pampanga.

Pangasinan had a sizzling start in the opening period, shooting 13-out-of-24 from the basket with 54% field goal efficiency against the 28% of Imus.

Ian Melencio led the first quarter scoring for Pangasinan with 6 points through mid-range shots to register an early advantage, 33-15.

VA Drones’ Nemesis Dela Cruz darted in two step-back three-pointers to propel the scoring for Imus in the second frame with 10 points.

Playing off-the-bench, Heatwaves’ Jerald Garcia quickly responded with a 9-point burst on his driving layups to preserve Pangasinan’s lead at the half, 53-38.

Heading to the second half, Imus’ Jameson Hiro alongside Nemesis Dela Cruz connived for 28 points to rally back in the game, but their efforts went to naught when the threesome of Nat Cosejo, Joshua Fontanilla, and Ian Melencio synergized for 30 points to breakaway and secure Pangasinan’s  11th win of the tourney.

Joshua Fontanilla paced Pangasinan with 21 points, 9 assists, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals, combined with the 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists of Nathaniel Cosejo, followed by the 12 markers and 6 boards of Ian Melencio.

Over at Imus, Jameson Hiro grabbed 26 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 rebounds accompanied by the 25-point output of Nemesis Dela Cruz.

As of this writing, the Pangasinan Heatwaves remained at the 11th spot of the Northern Division rankings with an 11-15 win-loss card in the 6th MPBL Season. (Kim Gealogo)
