THE Pangasinan Heatwaves came up hot when they torched the Sarangani Marlins in a blowout, 88-70, last September 24 at WES Arena in Valenzuela City.

Pangasinan controlled the rebounding department in the opening period with 11 boards against eight of Sarangani and produced 58% field goal efficiency.

Nat Cosejo feasted in the painted area with 6 points to give Heatwaves the early advantage, 21-14.

Marlins’ Larce Sunga countered with his running layups with 6 points but Heatwaves’ Allen Mina and Ian Melencio quickly replied with a 10-to-nothing cluster to keep Pangasinan afloat at the half, 42-27.

Coasting along to the third frame, Jeff Comia stepped up to contribute in the Heatwaves’ scoring binge, garnering 7 points on his inside and outside connections while shooting three-out-of-three from the field.

Sarangani’s Adven Diputado continued to drain mid-range jumpers in the fourth with 6 markers but his effort to spark a rally was stopped by Pangasinan’s Michael Mabulac through his post moves and driving layups with 6 points to pull away for good.

Pangasinan was powered by Comia with 12 points, 3 assists, and 3 rebounds, followed by the productions of Ian Melencio and Ralph Robin with 10 points each to notch their 12th win in 27 starts.

Meanwhile, Sarangani grabbed 16 points and 7 boards from Larce Sunga, 12 points from Adven Diputado, plus the 10-point, 7-rebound, and 5-assist effort of Charles Callano.

The Pangasinan Heatwaves will gear up to their last game of the 6th MPBL season against the Manila SV Batang Sampaloc on October 1 at San Andres Sports Complex. (Kim Gealogo)
