THE Pangasinan Heatwaves got back in the winning column after drubbing the Iloilo United Royals in a blowout finish, 100-78, last August 29 at the Amoranto Sports Complex in Quezon City.

Pangasinan caught fire early on from the three-point territory, sinking five-out-of-eight from deep with 62% efficiency to set up a lead in the opening period, 25-17.

In the second period, Iloilo’s Franz Diaz retaliated with his back-to-back triples reinforced with Jeffrey Ongteco’s fastbreak lay ups but these were repulsed by Heatwaves’ Ralph Robin’s quick 5-point cluster to maintain the lead at the half, 46-41.

Showcasing its improved depth, the Heatwaves’ second unit provided firepower in the third quarter when Damian Lasco collected 6 points followed by the 5-point contribution of Nat Cosejo. Ralph Robin finished the third with two consecutive step-back three-pointers to stretch the lead for Pangasinan, 78-59.

The Royals continued to make baskets in the fourth through Omar Larupay’s 7 markers but the Heatwaves preserved its red-hot shooting when MJ Juico posted 8 points in the shaded area to seize control of the game.

Pangasinan rode on the double-digit productions of MJ Juico and Ralph Robin who logged in 22points apiece. Robin added five three-point conversions, to go with 5 assists, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals as the Heatwaves notched their 10th win in 25 games.

Meanwhile, Iloilo chalked up 13 points from Omar Larupay along with the 12-point, 7 assist, and 2 block effort of Jeffrey Ongteco.

The Heatwaves will see action against Imus Agimat scheduled on September 14 at the Quezon Convention Center. (Kim Gealogo)
