Bataan pummels Pangasinan, 102-88
THE Pangasinan Heatwaves took a beating on the road from the Bataan Risers, 88-102, last August 22 at the Bataan People’s Center in Balanga.
In the first period, Risers’ James Castro picked up the scoring cudgels for Bataan with 7 points through his driving layups. Heatwaves’’ Nat Cosejo fought back and feasted underneath the basket with 9 points and 3 rebounds to give Pangasinan the early lead, 21-19.
Heading to the second frame, Pangasinan’s Damian Lasco made his presence felt off the bench with 5 points but was countered by Bataan’s collective scoring when Jeff Santos, Yves Sazon, and Rey Acuno combined for 16 points to take the advantage at the halftime, 44-36.
MJ Juico led Pangasinan’s rally in the third quarter with his back-to-back three-point connections and registered 10 points but these were outmatched by Robbi Darang’s 11-point explosion to preserve Bataan’s lead, 75-68.
Late in the fourth, Heatwaves’ Cosejo tried to spark a run for Pangasinan with back-to-back triples but these merely went to naught when Risers’ Darang replied with a quick 8 points followed by Sazon’s two consecutive three-point daggers to pull away for good.
Bataan relied on its shooting backcourts, Darang and Sazon with 23 points apiece alongside the 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists of Santos.
Over at Pangasinan, Cosejo poured in 19 points reinforced by Juico who wound up 18 markers.
It was the fifteenth loss of Pangasinan as they remained at the 11th spot of the Northern Division rankings of the 6th MPBL season with 9-15 win-loss card. (Kim Gealogo)
