Barangays San Miguel, Lasip win in Calasiao basketball opener
AT the season opener of the Mayor Kevin Roy Macanlalay Inter-Barangay Basketball League that kicked off at the Calasiao Sports Complex last September 14, Barangay San Miguel outplayed Barangay Quesban, 75-67, while Barangay Lasip registered a lopsided victory over Barangay Poblacion East in the nightcap, 66-48.
Backed up by Calasiao Mayor Kevin Roy Macanlalay, the league aims to create a platform for competition, strengthen bonds among the players, and discover new talents to give aspiring athletes an opportunity to display their skills.
“This league is all about giving young prospects and amateur hoopers an equal opportunity to shine, promote the sport as a healthy lifestyle and steer them away from negative vices like drugs,” he said.
The 24 teams are clustered into two brackets that are now playing a single round-robin elimination. The top four teams will advance to the crossover quarterfinals. The winners will proceed to the semis and then to the finals, which will be competed in a best-of-three series. (Kim Gealogo)
