THE first Pangasinan Table Tennis Grassroots Tournament reeled off last September 1 at City Mall San Carlos City under the auspices of the Federation of Tennis Clubs Pangasinan.

Over 100 homegrown swatters from all over the province participated in the single round-robin tournament. The participants were clustered into two categories (Beginners and Advance) in two different age groups:  (U9 and U12 Boys and Girls).

Among the winners were Lara Magday of Pozorrubio (U9 Girls Beginners), Ivan Dela Quadra of Urdaneta (U9 Boys Beginners), Darian Castañeda of Lingayen (U9 Girls Advance), Darren Apalla of Mangaldan (U9 Boys Advance), Angel Santos of  Pozorrubio (U12 Girls Beginners), Khurt Gutierrez of  Urdaneta (U12 Boys Beginners), Jemmabel Narcida of Urdaneta (U12 Girls Advance), and Charles Galvan of Dagupan (U12 Boys Advance).

Kang Gubatan, president of the Federation of Table Tennis Clubs Pangasinan, said the tournament aimed to showcase the skills of grassroots talents and promote the development of table tennis in the province.

“This event is not only about competition but also served as a reunion for the table tennis community, an opportunity for all of us to come together and share our passion for the sport”, Gubatan said. (Kim Gealogo)
