Team Urdaneta wins Mayor Zaplan Inter-Town Chess tourney

THE Urdaneta City Chess Association (UCCA) bagged the championship title in the game of minds during the recently concluded 5th Mayor Carlito Zaplan Inter-Town Chess Team Competition held in Barangay Leet, Sta. Barbara on August 10-11.
The competition played via a Swiss System format, was joined by 17 elite chess clubs in Pangasinan.
Members of the UCCA Chess Team are Candidate Master Romy Torres Fagon from Barangay Nancayasan, Christian Jake Tomines from Barangay Casantaan, Elwood Lacad from barangay Cayambanan, and Arena Fide Master Rodster Palaming of Barangay San Vicente.
UCCA tallied a tournament-high of 18 points to take home the trophy and a championship prize of P20,000. Binmaley Chess Club was second with 16 points and bagged P10,000, while the Lingayen Chess Club clinched the third spot for P7,500 cash.
The annual chess open aims to promote teamwork, passion, and wits of Pangasinan-born wood pushers in different cities and municipalities of the province. (Kim Gealogo)
