TWO Para athletes from the Schools Division Office of San Carlos City representing Region I showcased their exceptional balancing and coordination skills when they bagged two gold medals in Bocce during at the recently concluded Palarong Pambansa last July 12 at the Bright Academy Gymnasium in Cebu City.

Bocce is a ball game that requires each player or team to take turns rolling the ball towards a target ball called ‘jack’ or ‘pallino’. Balls have to be thrown underarm, tossed in the air or rolled in the ground and once the ball has been thrown, the closest ball to the ‘jack’ scores a point.

A newcomer in Palaro, sixteen-year-old Jamila Castro from Bacnar National High School outclassed Rocelyn Tutor from Region XI in the championship match of the Girls Division with the final tally of 6-3.

In Bocce team category, Castro paired up with John Romer Poyaoan, a seventeen-year-old student from Cobol National High School, to capture the gold medal against NCR in a dominating 5-2 finish.

“This remarkable feat is the outcome of my hard work and passion in playing the sport. I also dedicate this win to my family, my school and to the entire Region I for their endless support”, Castro enthused.

The two Para athletes were mentored by coach Marivic Ramos, SPED teacher of Bacnar NHS (Kim Gealogo)
