4 bronze medalists from Dagupan in Palarong Pambansa
DAGUPAN City produced four bronze medalists and three finalists in the 10-day Palarong Pambansa held in Cebu City from July 6 to 16.
The bronze medalists, members of the Dagupan Athletics in the Ilocos Region team, three in Taekwondo and one in gymnastics were: Mark Tyrone Reyes in the Gymnastics Mag Team, secondary boys; Princess Sarah Grace Pascual in Taekwondo’s Koryugi Light Weight, secondary girls; Jana Leah Juguilon, in Taekwondo’s Koryugi Bantam Weight; and Seam Aurelio in Taekwondo’s Koryugi Under 152 cm, Elementary Boys were earned as representatives of the Ilocos Region.
The finalists were Zoe Bettina Ilaw, ranked 5 in Gymnastics WAG Cluster 2; Lara Faye Concepcion who was ranked 5 in Gymnastics, WAG Cluster 3; Jonathan Carino, ranked 6 in Athletics-Secondary 400m hurdles 4×400 medley relay.
Finnela Sim, Sports Development Officer IV, thanked the seven athletes “for bringing honor to the city and to your Dagupan family”, and Mayor Belen Fernandez for supporting the Dagupan athletes all the way.
Of the 16 regions, including the National Academy of Sports (NAS) and the Philippine Schools Overseas (PSO) that participated in the Palarong Pambansa, Ilocos Region placed 15th overall, accounting for five gold, 14 silver and 10 bronze medals.
The National Capital Region was the overall champion, garnering 98 gold, 66 silver and 74 bronze medals. (Leonardo Micua)
