THE Pangasinan U18 basketball team overwhelmed Pampanga in a commanding finish, 87-71, in the championship game of the Pilipinas Super League (PSL) Luzon Regional Finals Born 2006 category last June 22 at the University of Batangas Gymnasium in Batangas City.

Aside from bagging the PSL Regional crown, Pangasinan came home with the championship prize of P100,000.

In the early quarter, Pangasinan utilized Jheremy Godoy’s 11-point storm to stay upfront, 27-19.

Heading to the second frame, Pampanga repulsed Pangasinan’s offense through the one-two punch combination of Kurt Zapata with 14 points alongside 11 points from Edmar Musni to seize the lead 46-45.

Advancing on the third period, Dave Melchor propelled Pangasinan’s scoring barrage when he registered his third triple of the match and tallied 11 points for Pangasinan to retake the lead, 70-60.

Kurt Zapata tried to make a comeback run for Pampanga in the fourth by posting eight consecutive points, but his effort went to naught when Jheremy Godoy retaliated with his own 10-point shots to give Pangasinan the championship title.

Pangasinan banked on the all-around performance of Batang Gilas standout from Manaoag, Jheremy Godoy who chalked up 35 points, eight rebounds and nine assists to secure the Finals MVP Award.

On the flipside, Pampanga gathered 24 points from Kurt Zapata plus the 16-point contribution of Edmar Musni.

Playing under the leadership of head coach Mikejona Puzon, Pangasinan earned a ticket to represent Luzon in the PSL National Finals in Quezon City slated on July 7 to 11. (Kim Gealogo)
