Pangasinan takes down Bacolod, 84-70

THE Pangasinan Heatwaves drubbed the Bacolod City of Smiles, 84-70 last June 17, 2024 at the Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, Laguna.

Heatwaves’ new acquisition, Allen Mina, poised to a hot start after drilling back-to-back triples and collected eight points in the opening frame. Michael Mabulac added four points from the painted area to lead Pangasinan, 23-11.

City of Smiles’ Nichole John Ubalde responded big in the second quarter with nine points in that span, alongside the 5-point contribution of Louie Vigil to spark a 10-0 run. Michael Mabulac ended Pangasinan’s scoring drought with a short jumper to rally, 34-37. With 38 seconds remaining at the first half, Alaminos City Mayor Arth Celeste connected on a three-pointer to tie the game for Pangasinan at 37 all.

Showing their improved depth and firepower after three quarters, the Heatwaves registered 25 points against just four for Bacolod to pull away for good.

Joshua Fontanilla clinched the best player honors with six points in the fourth quarter to help Pangasinan  in its back-to-back win.

Michael Mabulac gained 18 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists alongside Hesed Gabo who posted 12 points, four steals, assists followed by the 10-point output of Ed Daquioag for Pangasinan to improve with 5-8 win-loss card.

Meanwhile, Bacolod  that dropped to 1-13 got 24 points, 11 rebounds, four assists from Louie Vigil; 13 point, eight boards, three steals from Danny Marilao; and 12 points plus five rebounds from Nichole John Ubalde. (Kim Gealogo)
