3rd Mayor’s Cup Basketball tournament kicks-off in Basista
THE third season of the Basista Mayor’s Cup Basketball tournament reeled-off last June 15, at the Basista Municipal Auditorium participated in by 13 cage teams playing a single-round robin elimination format.
The annual basketball cup was sanctioned by Jerus Ramirez, Municipal Sports Coordinator alongside Danny Ildefonso, Developmental Basketball League-Eastern Pangasinan Commissioner and Chris Calaguio, Pangasinan Heatwaves consultant.
In the game opener, Brgy. Osmeña outclassed Brgy. Cabeldatan in a gutsy finish, 117-109 and Brgy. Mapolopolo clobbered down Brgy. Nalneran to cap-off the double-header, 99-83.
Basista Mayor Jolly Resuello remarked during the tourney’s opening ceremony that the hoopsfest goal is to showcase the skills of the homegrown cagers as well as to foster unity, cooperation, camaraderie and instill discipline among players from various barangays.
“This event brings together our athletes, coaches, and basketball enthusiasts to celebrate our passion for sports, promote healthy lifestyle, and strengthen our bonds in the community”, Mayor Resuello intoned. (Kim Gealogo)
