San Carlos Archery Club shines in LU archery tourney

THE San Carlos City Amputi Layag Archery Club showcased its accurate shooting skills that earned for it four golds and with two silvers at the 5th Mayor’s Archery Cup in celebration of “Diro” Festival in Bacnotan, La Union last May 18-19 held at the Bacnotan National High School.

Seventeen-year-old Leila Jell Cano of Turac National High School harvested four golds and ruled the four different categories of the tourney: Under 18 Girls, Olympic-Round Under 18, Open Girls 70-meter, and Open Girls Olympic-Round.

Meanwhile in the Boys Division, Yohance Poquiz, 17, bagged silver in the U18 Boys Olympic-Round awhile Benedict Rosario, 16, duplicated the same finish in the Open Boys-Olympic Round for the archers of Turac National High School.

Federico Lopez Jr., head coach of Amputi Layag Archery Club said the team’s preparations focused on mental fortitude, resistance training, and mastery of accuracy.

“The pinpoint accuracy they displayed is the fruit of their labor through intensive trainings, we’ll relish this recent feat as an experience to improve for upcoming competitions”, Lopez Jr. enthused.

The two-day invitational shootfest was participated in by 200 archers from Pangasinan, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and La Union. (Kim Gealogo)
