THE Pangasinan Heatwaves suffered a harrowing defeat in the hands of host Caloocan Batang Kankaloo, 65-66, last May 10, 2024 at the Caloocan Sports Complex.

It was the heatwaves fifth loss against just two wins in the 6th MPBL season.

Pangasinan had a rousing start at the half of Jason Tan’s two treys beyond the arc, along with Ralph Robin’s 12-point outburst coming off the bench, 43-28.

Trailing from behind, 46-55, the Batang Kankaloos exploded in the fourth quarter with a 12-2 blitz, sparked by Ronnie Matias to take their first lead, erasing the game-high’s 18-point deficit, 58-57.

The Heatwaves responded with back-to-back mid-range pull ups from Ian Melencio, but the Batang Kankaloos snatched the momentum of the game through the seven-point run ignited by Paul Sanga’s triple and two consecutive layups from Rommel Calahat.

With 7.2 seconds left in the clock, Heatwaves’ Ed Daquioag had a chance to reverse the outcome with a three-pointer but missed the possible game-winning shot.

Rommel Calahat poured in 15 points and 4 rebounds, reinforced with Joel Lee Yu’s 13-point contribution to give Caloocan its third win of the season.

Heatwaves’ Ralph Robin delivered 15 points and two boards to combine with the 12-point markers of Ed Daquioag for Pangasinan.

The Heatwaves is currently at the twelve-seed in standing with 2-5 win-loss card and will see action on May 18, 2024 against Biñan in their third home-court defense at the Calasiao Sports Complex. (Kim Gealogo)
