THE Dagupan City table tennis team brought home two medals, one gold and one bronze, during the Manila’s 1st Chawi Sports Hopes Table Tennis Championship held last April 6-7, 2024 at the Ayala Malls in Pasig City.

Lorlie Galvan, a 10-year-old pupil at the Pantal Elementary School, secured the gold medal in the premier U11 Girls class after trouncing Metro Manila’s Angelica Cotas in the final round with a score of 3-0.

Meanwhile, 12-year-old Emerald Ayson of St. John’s Cathedral School claimed the bronze medal in U13 Girls category when she fell short in the semifinal against Cheska Tenorio of Cebu.

The invitational tournament recognized as a developmental table tennis event for exceptional swatters of various age groups in the country was organized by Chawi Sports Center, a table tennis sports club in Iloilo.

Reynald Queliza, head coach of the Dagupan City Table Tennis team said the girls’ impressive stint in the tournament served as their tune-up for the Region I Athletic Association (R1AA) in Laoag City. (Kim Gealogo)
