 MPBL OPENING MATCH

THE Pangasinan Heatwaves suffered their first loss in their debut match against Abra Weavers when the 6th season of MPBL unwrapped last April 6 at the Calasiao Sports Complex.

Weavers’ John Lloyd Clemente took over the game and connected two triples to add to his eight-point burst late in the fourth with 2 minutes remaining, 78-70 to give the Weavers an ample cushion.

Heatwaves new recruits, Hesed Gabo and Ian Melecio tried to bail out Pangasinan with back-to-back jumpers, but Weavers’ Mac Tallo stalled their run with a three-point dagger going to the last 43 seconds.

Tallo registered 14 points, 8 rebound, 7 assists and 2 steals reinforced with Clemente’s 12 points to cruise the Weavers in their first win of the season.

On the flipside, Pangasinan tallied a game-high of 26 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds from Hesed Gabo alongside Ian Melencio with 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Jerson Cabiltes, Heatwaves head coach revealed that three-point shooting percentage made difficult for Heatwaves to overcome Weavers red-hot shooting. Abra shot 12/31 (38%) from behind the arc while Pangasinan made only 6/25 (24%). (Kim Gealogo)
