THE University of Luzon Golden Tigers clobbered the Lyceum of the Philippines University-Laguna, 82-72, in their sixth game in the 30th National Capital Region Athletic Association held at the PATTS College of Aeronautics in Parañaque City on Monday, March 25.

In the opening period, both teams struggled to find their coordination and tied at 14 all. Golden Tiger’s Ventax Begenio ignited the offense and took over in the second quarter with 12 points, combining with Jomel Sansano’s 10 points for UL to lead  35-29 at halftime.

Heading to the third and final frame, LPU’s Jeff Gelamucho tried to counter UL’s offensive surge, tallying 17 points and 5 rebounds but were not enough to neutralize Begenio’s 22 points, 3 rebounds and 2 blocks, alongside Michael Lambino’s 18 rebounds for the Golden Tiger’s second victory of the season in six starts.

Luis Samson IV, Executive Secretary of University of Luzon, lauded their efforts to win their matches.

“The team travelled five hours just to compete here, fatigue can be a factor in their slow start of the season but their dedication to show up and compete is what makes this team standout amongst other contenders”, Samson said.

UL head coach Byron Vidal said that the Tigers used the Holy-Week break to rest and regroup in order to climb up the standings with 2-4 win-loss record and currently at the 9th spot. (Kim Gealogo)
