Asingan cyclist represents PH in Vietnam cycling tourney
SEVENTEEN-year-old cyclist Raven Joy Valdez of Asingan is representing the country in the 14th Binh Duong International Women’s U23 Cycling Tournament- Biwase Cup at Binh Duong, Vietnam on March 6-15, 2024.
Valdez, who made it to the Philippine Cycling Team in February 2023 will compete against nine international teams including powerhouse cyclists from China, Japan, Kazakhstan, Iran, and Vietnam.
Cyclists from the participating countries will race on the track distance of 1,158 km that will cover 10 stages.
Her father, who is also his coach, Jefferson Valdez said Raven had undergone rigid physical training for endurance, strength, and stamina in anticipation of the long race.
The pride of Juan G. Macaraeg National High School, Raven Joy claimed the competition will be a challenge for her, not only to overcome the hot weather but the tough climbs on the roads.
“This will be one of my toughest race so far, but I’ve come prepared not just to win but also to inspire my fellow hometown athletes”, Raven Joy said. (Kim Gealogo)
