VMUF Athletics Team rules track events in PNG
THE Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation Athletics team ruled the track and amassed three gold, one silver and four bronze medals in the Philippine National Games 2023 last December 17-22 in Pasig City.
Guhan De Luna Garcia, 20, of Barangay Tobor, Malasiqui, was easily the toast of the team when he won in the 200m run open for men, breaking the national record for the event by clocking 21.44 seconds.
The other gold medalists were Cristalyn Adalino who topped the U20 high jump for women, and Mary Rose Frias, who triumphed in U20 1,500m run for women, clocking four minutes and 58 second shots. Frias also earned a bronze in the U20 5,000m for women.
Other medalists were Angelie Teorim, a silver medal (U20 hurdle for women), Jane Buizon, bronze (3,000m walk for women), Geramae Domalanta, bronze (200m U20 for women), and Edu Garibay, Angelo Muñoz, Jan Deo Correa, Renier Ranges, bronze (4×100 team relay).
With the team’s remarkable display of dominance in the oval, head coaches Dante Camaso and Enzo Williams are determined to continue shaping grassroots athletes in Pangasinan.
“The success of the team is even more special because these athletes are homegrown talents. In our program, we want to continuously support and discover potential national and elite athletes”, coach Camaso said.
The VMUF track team has its eyes set on upcoming national athletics tournaments to further hone their skills. (Kim Gealogo)
