Asingan triathlete defends title in 2023 Asia Duathlon Championships
SEVENTEEN-year-old triathlete Jena Valdez from Toboy, Asingan successfully defended her crown after winning the Sprint Junior Elite Women’s event during the 2023 Asia Duathlon Championships held at New Clark City, Capas, Tarlac last month.
National Champion Valdez who won the previous Asia Duathlon tilt last December 2022, clocked one hour 11 minutes and three seconds in the 20km bike race and 2.5km run against triathletes in her class.
Despite her remarkable title defense on the track, Valdez suffered a bike crash a week before the event. “My heart is stronger than these wounds, even though I was beaten, it is my dream to win again here”, Valdez uttered.
The back-to-back Asia in Duathlon champ is running under the mentorship of her father and head coach Jefferson Valdez who was also a sprint distance triathlete for the national team. (Kim Gealogo)
