FIFTY-SEVEN volleyball teams from various towns in the 2nd and 3rd Districts of Pangasinan are participating in 6th Mayor’s Cup Volleyball Tournament that was opened on September 16 by Malasiqui Mayor Noel Anthony Geslani.

The towns represented are Aguilar, Basista, Binmaley, Bugallon, Labrador, Mangatarem, Urbiztondo, San Carlos City, Bayambang, Calasiao, Mapandan, Sta. Barbara, and Malasiqui.

The competition encompasses two categories: the 17-Under Inter-High School and the Open Age category, featuring both men’s and women’s divisions, in addition to the Inter-Town Invitational.

In the tournament’s opening match, Basista defeated Mapandan with a decisive victory, winning all three sets: 25-20, 25-18, and 25-21.

Mayor Geslani emphasized the vital role of sports in fostering the overall development of the youth. “We need to provide them with opportunities to achieve greater heights in life,” Geslani remarked. He also encouraged the residents of Malasiqui to participate in the municipality’s inaugural dancesport and chess clinic, which opened on September 23.

The volleyball tournament’s final round is scheduled to take place in December of this year. (Kim Gealogo)
