Calasiao athlete cited for win in Women Open Foot Race
THE Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP), during its regular session on October 23, passed a resolution commending and congratulating Kimberly Garcia Gaela, a Calasiao resident for winning the 100-kilometer Women Open Foot Race at the Magnificent Baling 100 (TMB100) championship in Kedah, Malaysia.
The resolution, authored and co-authored by Board Members Shiela Baniqued and Vici Ventanilla respectively, highlighted Pangasinan’s tradition of recognizing and commending its outstanding athletes for their exceptional achievements in their respective sports.
“Kimberly G. Gaela’s recent triumph not only serves as an inspiration to her fellow Calasiaoeños but also to all Pangasinenses, encouraging them to pursue their dreams and believe in their full potential,” the resolution partly reads.
Gaela clinched the championship in the 100-kilometer race held last October 13-14, with an impressive time of 17 hours and 29 minutes.
The resolution also highlighted Gaela’s journey from humble beginnings to becoming a dominant figure in the local and international trail running scene. She has garnered several awards, broken course records, and relentlessly pursued her trail running dreams.
The Magnificent Baling 100 (TMB100) is a trail-running event founded to promote Baling as an eco-tourism destination in Malaysia. This year’s race was the first edition, featuring various categories, including 10km, 25km, and 100km. (Eva Visperas)
