DCNHS Taekwondo jin grabs silver in Palarong Pambansa
SEVENTEEN year-old Angela Eliron, a student at the Dagupan City National High School (DCNHS) captured a silver medal in Taekwondo Kyorugi Light Middleweight secondary category in the Palarong Pambansa held in Marikina City from July 30 to August 5, 2023.
She earned the silver when she squared-off in the finals with a top jin from Region 10 in Taekwondo competitions participated in by athletes from 17 regions across the nation.
Before she went to the Palaro representing Region 1 and Dagupan City, she embarked on rigorous strengthening workouts, building endurance, stamina and mastered her techniques as well.
“I am very proud of my silver medal finish in the Palarong Pambansa. I used to be only dreaming to participating in trainings in my younger days,” Eliron said.
Eliron, who hails from Malued, Dagupan City trained under the guidance of Coach CJ Daroya, reinforced by Marilou Morga, R1AA coach from DCNHS and Franklin Jacob of WCC Aviation, who was Palaro Coach.
Daroya advised his jin to cherish the outcome of the match and utilize the strategy she acquired in her training that worked for Eliron well.
Eliron was discovered by his former Coach Larry Bautista when she was still seven years old and in Grade 2 after watching her in school-based taekwondo training after their classes, while she was waiting for her parents to fetch her from school.
She was encouraged since to undergo intensive trainings and enroll in the Taekwondo class with the permission of her parents.
“Winning in Palarong Pambansa is a big accomplishment in my student-athlete era. It brings tremendous sense of fulfillment and happiness that validates all my hard work and dedication,” Eliron said. (Kim Gealogo, University of Luzon intern)
