VMUF-HS runner earns ticket to ASEAN School Games in Vietnam
SEVENTEEN-year-old Renier Jay Ranges, a Grade 11 Senior High school student of Virgen Milagrosa University, booked a ticket for the 13TH ASEAN School Games 2023 in Vietnam after winning the National Try-out Invitation for 100-m dash at Ultra Pasig City last June 8-10, 2023.
The ASEAN School Games is an annual multi-sport event for secondary schools’ athletes staged yearly under the authority of ASEAN Schools Sports Council.
Ranges clocked in the try out’s best of 10.33 seconds, which passed the ASEAN Games standard.
Eleven countries in Southeast Asia will join the ASG in Da Nang, Vietnam on August 1 to 5 and will compete in six sporting events.
National School Champion Ranges, who comes from Ingalagala, Malasiqui town, is training under the mentorship of head coach Dante Camaso.
Coach Camaso advises the sprinter to keep his focus on the game, clear his mind of negative thoughts and must lean on heavy trainings and experiences that he acquired in previous track events.
“The sport running, for me, is the energy that keeps my burning desire to always strive harder. It is my passion and my safe haven whenever my back is against the wall,” Ranges said.
Honored and thrilled to represent the country, Vietnam-bound Ranges received full support from his parents and the management of Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation. (Kim Gealogo, University of Luzon Intern)
