BASKETBALL with fun and character building.

This is what Second District Rep. Mark Cojuangco envisions for his 1st Ayudaman Distrito Dos Inter-town Basketball Tournament 2023 for 22-under and open category started on May 13 at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center in Lingayen.

Cojuangco said he wants the youth in his district to learn basketball because it helps develop one’s character, adding that there are lessons to be learned in basketball that can be used by a player to succeed in life.

Ayudaman is Cojuangco’s moniker when he campaigned in the last elections and has since adopted it up.

Cojuangco’s basketball tournament was also graced by Senator and presidential sister Imee Marcos who was in Lingayen for the distribution of Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation.

PBA basketball superstar Lakay Danny Ildefonso from Urdaneta City, the event’s guest of honor, explained his foundation’s objective – to help develop skills of young players, from 14 years old and below, who have potentials in basketball.

Ildefonso, a two-time PBA Most Valuable Player in 2000 and 2001 on back-to-back seasons and won all three major MVP awards in the league, proudly declared he is a son of a farmer and became successful in life because of discipline, persistence, determination and prayers.

“Nothing is impossible in life. We are the ones who make our own destiny in life. If we want to be a good example in life, we are the ones who will do it,” Ildefonso told the teams.

He said under his foundation, he will provide shelter, send them to school, share his expertise to them and guide them to fulfill their dream to be a basketball superstar in the future.

“That’s really my dream. That’s what I want as my legacy,” he added.

The 1st Ayudaman Inter-town Basketball Tournament was also attended by Mayors JR Resuello (Basista), Modesto Operaña and Vice Mayor Voltaire Balolong (Urbiztondo), Leopoldo Bataoil (Lingayen), Ramil Ventenilla and Councilor Harley Paragas (Mangatarem), Kristal Ballesteros-Soriano (Aguilar), Councilor Urbano delos Angeles representing Binmaley and Councilor Monalisa Asis representing Labrador.

Vice Gov. Mark Lambino represented Gov. Ramon Guico III who, according to Cojuangco, was in Japan for official business. Former Bugallon Mayor Ric Orduña was the game coordinator.  (Eva Visperas)
