THE future looks bright for women’s football in Pangasinan as several all-girls teams from northern and central Luzon converged in Lingayen to stamp their class at the 3rd Pinay In Action (PIA) Football Cup-Pangasinan.

Held from March 25-26 at the Pangasinan State University (PSU) Lingayen Campus, the pocket football tournament was organized by PIA – Senator Pia S. Cayetano’s women empowerment advocacy arm – together with the Pangasinan United Football Club and PSU.

The 3rd PIA Cup was highlighted by back-to-back conquests of homegrown squads, namely the Sual Football Club, that ruled the 7v7 tournament for the ‘Girls Born in 2007 and Up’ Division, and the Pozorrubio Ladies, that dominated the Women’s 7v7 Open Division.

Sual Football Club edged the 1st runner up, Alon and Araw Football Club from Cabangan, Zambales, in a tightly contested finals that was decided by a penalty shootout, 2-1. Meanwhile, Lipit Football Club from Manaoag, captured 2nd runner up honors in the age-group division against Ciudad de Urdaneta United Development Team.

Meanwhile, the Pozorrubio Ladies outdueled 1st runner up Baguio United Football Club, 2-1, in the Women’s Open finals. Off Target Football Club from Urdaneta took 2nd runner up honors in the open division at the expense of Mighty Valorous Football Club from Olongapo City, Zambales.

The tournament also gave special recognition to outstanding players:
