Pinay int’l kart racer visits roots

UNKNOWN to many, the country has a lady champion kart-racer and she’s from Pangasinan.

Bianca Bustamante, the first Filipina racer in the world’s premiere kart racing tournament for women, made this known when she visited her hometown, Mabini, on Tuesday, August 30.

Bustamante, a four-time gold medalist in the China Grand Prix Kart Scholarship, and three-time delegate to the Macao International Kart Grand Prix, has proven her racing skills by qualifying in the W Series – a junior, all-female single-seater racing championship.

The series aims to provide equal opportunities for women racers, which also serves as a support series for the premiere racing event in the world – the Formula One.

The seventeen-year-old beauty was born on January 1, 2005, and is now a grade 11 STEM student at the University of Santo Tomas Angelicum.

Bustamante has been fond of kart racing. since childhood. She began joining local and international karting competitions since the age of five.

In an interview, Bustamante said that she loves racing as this is a passion she shares with her father.

In her visit to her hometown, Bustamante not only relives her youth and love of the place she used to go on vacations, but also to inspire and empower youths most especially younger women, into doing the things they are passionate about. (Ahikam Pasion)
