MORE than 300 young Dagupeños are training for different sports events including arnis, athletics, boxing, chess, football, futsal, lawn tennis, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, and wrestling in this year’s Summer Sports Clinic. Every summer vacation, the city continues to bring free sports clinic to kids and teens through the Dagupan City Sports Commission (DCSC), Youth and Sports Office headed by Sports Development Officer Finnela Sim. Many of the products of the annual summer sports program continue their training beyond the sports clinic and rising as medal haulers while representing the city in the Region 1 Athletic Association Meet (R1AA), Palarong Pambansa, and other local and international sports competition.  The clinic is open to all Dagupeños ages 7-16 years old, this year’s FREE SUMMER SPORTS CAMP runs from May 5-16.

AS part of the 2025 Bangus Festival culminating activities, the City of Dagupan continued its month-long celebration by grilling 25,000 Bangus (Milkfish) during the 2025 Kalutan ed Dalan held at the Judge Jose de Venecia Highway Extension on Wednesday, April 30.  Dubbed the Bangus Capital of the Philippines, the city surpassed its grilled Bangus record from the previous Kalutan ed Dalan event with an additional 5,000 upgrade from the 20,000 pieces of Bangus grilled last year. Mayor Belen Fernandez, together with Vice Mayor Dean Bryan “BK” Kua, led the ceremonial lighting of grills as a symbol of the city’s vibrant cultural landscape and identity in Bangus farming and trade.

BANGUS FESTIVAL 2025 ‘BANGUSINE’ A TASTE OF EUROPE

DIFFERENT European dishes were prepared by participating universities and colleges with Dagupan milkfish as their main ingredient during the Bangusine 2025: A Taste of Europe Cooking Contest held at the city plaza last April 28.  Spearheaded by the City Nutrition Office, along with Bangusine Event Chair Councilor Dennis Canto, the event was made possible through the support of the event sponsors such as Knorr, Lady’s Choice, Uneliver Philippines and Petron.

Aside from the served dishes, the event also featured creative booths by the 8 participating universities and colleges, which were: Señor Tesoro College (Portugal) – Defumada Croquettas en Salada; PIMSAT Colleges (Switzerland) – Al Plermagronen; Philippine College of Science and Technology (Italy) – Moringa Ravioli Stuffed with Cheesy Bangus in Pomodoro Sauce; STI College (Turkey) – Sweet Banglava and Savory Spice Banglava; University of Luzon (Spain) – Bangus Paella Wrap; Maxima Technical and Skills Training Institute, Inc. (Austria) – Bangus Strudel; Lyceum Northwestern University (Germany) – Bangus Bratwurst with Mashed Potato and Sauerkraut and; Universidad de Dagupan (Sweden) – Kroppkakor with Pyttipanna Bangus Tinapa Filling with Lady’s Choice Bechamel and Knorr.
