
‘HANDA KA BA?’ PREPARES FOR THE BIG ONE

IN partnership with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHILVOCS), the Dagupan City Government started to identify proactive actions for disaster preparedness through the HANDA KA BA? Summit on the Big One held on February 12 at CSI Stadia in barangay Lucao.
Mayor Belen Fernandez thanked the representatives from PHILVOCS who facilitated the two-day lecture, as she encouraged the participants to maximize the opportunity to equip themselves from the experts’ planning strategies in preparing for calamities or disasters.
The summit served as a comprehensive platform for the 31 Barangay Captains and Barangay Kagawads, 31 SK Chairpersons, Department of Interior and Local Government, Dagupan City Police Station, Dagupan City Fire Station, PNP Maritime, Philippine Coast Guard, Naval Reserve Center Northern Luzon and Philippine Guardian Brotherhood together with the PHILVOCS representatives and shared ideas and knowledge for the city’s pursuit of everyone’s safety, most especially the possible threat of the Big One. The Big One is a potential massive earthquake that could shock the Philippines with its expected 7.2 magnitude earthquake that may hit the area of Metro Manila that could affect Dagupan.

CITY HOSTS 2025 REGIONAL SCHOOLS PRESS CONFERENCE, FESTIVAL OF TALENTS
THE Schools Division Office – Dagupan City, under the leadership of Dr. Rowena C Banzon, in partnership with the city government, officially kicked off the opening program for this year’s Regional Schools Press Conference and Regional Festival of Talents on February 11, at the Jimmy L. Fernandez Center. The two major journalism and cultural events of the Department of Education gathered a total of 5,600 delegates from the 14 school divisions in Region 1. ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs Correspondent & TV Patrol Reporter Lady P. Vicencio, the keynote speaker, stressed the significant roles that come with being delegates to the said events.
“You are not just writers of a publication, you are not just showmakers or showrunners of a newscast or a radio program, you are storytellers, you are truth seekers, and you are change makers,” Vicencio emphasized.
4th District Representative Congressman Christopher “Toff” De Venecia and Dagupan City Mayor Belen T. Fernandez also shared their messages highlighting the importance of the youth’s talents and skills in the field of media and creative industries.

MORE THAN 700 NEW BOOKS DONATED TO DAGUPAN CITY LIBRARY
MAYOR Belen Fernandez together with Dagupan City Public Library and Information Center, OIC-City Librarian Marilyn Caguioa, thanked the Samahan ng Nagkakaisang Filipino from Bay Area, San Francisco, California through Ms. Marlene Garibay for the 718 collection of story books, fiction, novels, and other children’s books from the US for the Dagupeño children to enjoy.
These books will be on display at the city’s Day Care Centers, barangay library and will also be shared to the storytelling activities in different public schools in Dagupan.
Caguioa also invited everyone to visit the City Library Reading Nook staged at the CSI Mall 2nd Floor, where kids can visit and read books for free.
