Women head USA’s Pangasinan Brotherhood Association

IT’S a woman’s world at the Pangasinan Brotherhood Association-USA following the swearing in of the newly elected officers on December 9 at the Cerritos City Performance Room in California, U.S.A.

Two empowered women have taken over the leadership of the association were unanimously elected president and chairman of the board, respectively of the 45-year old organization.

Elected 18th president was Sue Ann Estrada-Tumakay of San Carlos City. She is a certified physical assistant and current president of the San Carlenian Association.

Ellen Rodriguez-Swing of Burgos was elected board chairperson. She is an accountant and president of the Cerritos Chamber of Commerce.

According to Dan Niño, the association’s press officer and outgoing board chairperson, the duo are the first woman-tandem to hold top leadership positions in the organization.

Others elected were: Josie Carayugan-Kho, president of Bayambang Association of Southern Californian was appointed executive vice-president, while the board elected Danny Tejada, president of the Association of Mangatarem Overseas Residents of Southern Callifornia, as vice-chairman of the board.

Other members of the board include Nieves Coquia, Dagupan City Club of Southern Califorinia; Pio Roque Coquia, Greater Dagupan City Association of California; Jann Doctor-Bergado, Santa Barbara; Marites Orencia-Bautista, San Fabian; J R Araquel, Alaminos City; Dean Mandapat, San Carlos City; Noemi Viloria-Dumlao, Bani and Henry Estrada, Calasiao.

In her acceptance speeches, Estrada-Tumakay vowed to achieve the association’s vision and goals that the founders  have envisioned.

“May we continue to prosper as an organization by working together to foster goodwill, charity and service”, she said.

Rodriguez-Swing said the mission of the organization is not merely a statement but a commitment for intelligent participation, personal growth and the development of kinship among Pangasenenses, both locally and globally.

She pledged to help attain the organizations’ vision to be make a positive change for the prosperity of the province of Pangasinan.

Founded in 1978 by the late Dagupeño Ambassador Armando C. Fernandez and former consul general of Los Angeles, PBA-USA aims to promote and preserve Filipinos’ culture and tradition and getting engaged with fellow Pangasinanenses.

Some of the association’s contributions for the upliftment of the province and its people are providing relief goods in time of calamities, providing supplemental scholarship grants to deserving college-bound students, promoting local products and crafts of Pangasinan  in Los Angeles, and had donated books to the municipal library in Alaminos City and more.
