MORE than 900 city scholars finally received grants for the first semester of the next school year from the Fernandez administration. Mayor Belen Fernandez expressed personal gratification on being able to deliver her administration’s commitment to help deserving students with ambitions from impoverished families to continue and complete their college education.

“I always believe that the investment in education pays the best interest. I’m glad we’re doing this, dahil malaking pakinabang ng programang ito sa ating mahal na siyuda,” the mayor told the scholars and their parents. (Dagupan CIO News)

CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION, DISASTER RISK REDUCTION DISCUSSED IN DAGUPAN

THE Dagupan City government, headed by Mayor Belen Fernandez, reiterated its commitment to reinforce steps and activities aimed at addressing climate change issues during the Regional Climate Change Caravan (RCCC) hosted by the DepEd Dagupan SDO, held at the Bonuan Boquig National High School (BBNHS) on November 6. Among the topics discussed were proposed solutions to intensify public information and educational campaign to address climate change.

Mayor Belen Fernandez said “gaano man kaliit, kung tayo’y sama-sama sa solusyon, makakatulong tayo sa pagpapalakas ng ating kapasidad upang harapin ang hamon ng climate change,” and cited the advocacies of BBNHS for the protection and preservation of  natural resources in the city, i.e., Mangrove Propagule Planting part of  ‘Ilog Ko, Aroen Ko’ Adopt a River Project that earned world recognition Top Prize Winner at the T4 World’s Best School Environmental Action.

The mayor shared steps that the city government is taking to address Disaster Risk Reduction among these are Flood Mitigation Programs in collaboration with the DPWH, intensified dredging operations in rivers, banning of oversized and illegal fish pens, and waste management programs. LECTURES ON POPULATION PROGRAMS HELD IN BFP, BJMP

THE City Population Office (CPO) continued the promotion of its programs as directed by Mayor Belen Fernandez and the Commission on Population with lectures before specific target audiences –  Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).

On October 23, 24 BFP personnel and on-the-job trainee criminology students from  PAMMA and Metro Dagupan Colleges attended lectures on Responsible Parenthood (Ed Veronica Jane B. Cruz), Family Planning (May Joy V. Soriano), HIV Basics (Kim M. Paras) and Population Programs para sa mga Dagupeños (Malen Pilon) that include Libreng Kasalan, Legitimation, Family Planning service delivery, pre-natal/ teen pregnancy monitoring, service delivery and referrals.

On October 24, in observance of the National Correctional Consciousness Week 2023, some 45 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) at the male dorm of the Dagupan City Jail, listened to lectures on Kalalakihang Tapat sa Responsibilidad at Obligasyon sa Pamilya (KATROPA) headed by Dagupan KATROPA President Roberto Salayog, Auditor Armando Estrada, and KATROPA focal person Jerome Espeleta.  Aside from family planning, responsible parenthood, libreng kasalan, legitimation, pre-natal/ teen pregnancy monitoring, condoms were distributed to the participants. Jail Warden Roque Constantino Sison III, CPO Malen Pilon, Bonuan Gueset Population Program Officer Althea Rei Ugaban and CPO personnel facilitated the lectures.. (Dagupan CIO News)
