SUPPORT FOR ‘TALABA’ FARMERS
ONE of the most impressive and valuable lessons that Dagupan City learned in China is the oyster aquaculture that plays a major socio-economic activity of communities in coastal areas. Because Dagupan has a big potential for oyster aquaculture, the city government must keep on developing and studying the modern application of technology in oyster production. This can be done with the help of the City Agriculture Office, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and Department of Science and Technology (DOST). According to Public Employment Services Office (PESO) officer Joy Siapno, the city has 80 oyster farmers that can be assisted with oyster production equipment from DOLE to enable them to level up their system and increase their production.
