A total of 100 displaced Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from the municipalities of Alcala on January 18, Aguilar on January 19, Sual on January 20, and Anda on January 21 received P5,000 financial assistance each under the Tulong Pangkabuhayan sa OFW Project spearheaded by the Provincial Government of Pangasinan.

A component of the flagship recovery program of Governor Amado “Pogi” I. Espino III dubbed Abig Pangasinan, the Tulong Pangkabuhayan sa OFW Project, now on its second edition, assists displaced OFWs in starting their own livelihood and small business ventures through financial assistance and basic financial management seminar.

“Tinitignan ng gobyerno ngayon kung paano kayo matutulungan. Ito ang ginagawa ng Provincial Government. Binibigyan kayo ng pagkakataon na kahit papaano ay makatayo ulit. You are the modern heroes,” said Sangguniang Panlalawigan Majority Floor Leader Nestor “Nikiboy” Reyes on behalf of Governor Espino during the staging of the financial distribution in Alcala.

The program led by the Provincial Employment Services Office (PESO), in partnership with the Provincial Migration and Development Council (PMDC) under the supervision of First District Board Member Margielou Orange Humilde-Verzosa, is a livelihood and training project for displaced OFWs affected by the COVID 19 pandemic.

“Nakita po ng pamahalaang panlalawigan na marami sa inyong mga OFW ang halos walang kinita at lalong-lalo na hindi pa nakabangon sa pamumuhay kaya nabuo ang Tulong Pangkabuhayan sa OFW Project at tanging Pangasinan lang sa buong bansa ang may assistance sa mga OFWs gaya nito,” BM Verzosa said.

Provincial Employment Services Officer Alex Ferrer in Aguilar on January 19 assured that the Provincial Government will continue to implement the project, along with other programs, to uplift the lives of Pangasinenses.

“Asahan niyo na under the leadership of Governor Pogi Espino at sa tulong ng iba’t-ibang sangay ng Provincial Government ay patuloy na mag-iisip at magsasagawa ng iba’t-ibang programa pa para makarekober ang ating bayan, lalawigan at ang ating mga mamamayan,” said PESO Manager Ferrer.

Beneficiaries of the project were selected by the municipal migrant desk officers and were chosen based on their cause of repatriation, number of months or years the OFW worked abroad, and economic situation of the displaced OFWs.

Sual Mayor Liseldo “Dong” Calugay in his message during the program in Sual held on January 20 expressed his appreciation to the Provincial Government, especially Governor Espino, for the unhampered services brought to their town

“Hindi nagpapabaya ang Provincial Government of Pangasinan at ang LGU-Sual upang matulungan kayong mga OFWs,” said Mayor Calugay.

Anda Mayor Joganie Rarang likewise commended Governor Amado “Pogi” I. Espino III for bringing Tulong Pangkabuhayan anew in their town on January 21 that will assist OFWs to engage in livelihood opportunities.

Brief orientation on the Tulong Pangkabuhayan sa OFW Project and Basic Financial Management Training Seminar led by the staff from Pangasinan Provincial Population, Cooperative and Livelihood Development Office (PPLCDO) was held after the ceremonial awarding to further guide the beneficiaries.

During the Tulong Pangkabuhayan sa OFW Project First Edition, the Pangasinan PESO granted a total of P5.73-million total financial assistance to 1,146 Beneficiaries across the province.

Also attending the programs on separate occasions were: 5th District Board Members Chinky Perez-Tababa and Louie Sison, Former Congressman Oscar Orbos, former Board Member Clemente Arboleda, and Alcala Migrant Desk Officer Marlyn Galvan, Maria Robelle Anne Pearl Sagles representing Aguilar Mayor Roldan Sagles, Aguilar Vice Mayor Jesus Zamuco Jr, Aguilar Migrant Desk Officer Evelyn Dumlao, and Aguilar OFW Family Association President Maximo Melican, Sual Migrant Desk Officer Janette Ludivina Andaya and LGU-Sual OFW President Beatrice Acuña. /PJES
